Day-to-day-program
Day 1
Your English speaking travel guide welcomes you at Sofia Airport and takes you for a city tour, showing you the highlights of Sofia. If you have a late afternoon or an evening flight, we make the city tour the following morning. In the evening you enjoy a free welcome drink and dinner at a traditional Bulgarian restaurant at the foothills of Vitosha Mountains. Overnight in the neighbourhood of Sofia in a cosy family hotel.

Day 2
Today we are on our way to Koprivshtitsa - a charming little town, spread across a pine-clad valley in the Sredna Gora Mountains. You have plenty of time to explore Koprivshtitsa yourself and feel the magic of its ancient culture, rich history and fine architecture. Overnight in Koprivshtitsa in an authentic family hotel.

Day 3
Via the picturesque Troyan mountain pass we reach the Troyan monastery, Bulgaria's third largest monastery, renowned for its colorful murals and remarkable woodcarvings. Enjoy the beauty inside and outside the monastery. Forget all your troubles and cares amidst silence and peace. Tonight a tasty Bulgarian meal, well washed down with some excellent local wine, awaits you at a cosy "mehana ", the traditional style Bulgarian tavern. Overnight in the neighbourhood of the Troyan monastery.

Day 4
First we pay a visit to the National Exhibition of ceramics, woodcarving and embroidery.Here it seems to be the best place to buy an authentic, hand-made souvenir for someone you love. We continue our trip to Lovech where the covered footbridge, the Ethnografical Museum and several well-restored museum houses are worth seeing. Dinner and overnight in Lovech in a cosy family hotel.

Day 5
Our trip takes us to Veliko Tarnovo - one of the most picturesque towns in Bulgaria. We visit the cathedral onTsarevets Hill, the medieval fortress and numerous churches, monasteries and ruins. Nowhere is the majesty of medieval Bulgaria more evident than in this City of the Tsars, perched on several hills, above the winding river Yantra. Dinner and overnight in Arbanassi, a quiet village 5 km north-east from Veliko Tarnovo.

Day 6
Today we pay a visit to a 17th century house-museum in Arbanassi. We admire the colourful frescoes, the medieval icons and richly-carved wooden iconostases in the churches and monasteries in and around Arbanassi. Dinner and overnight in Arbanassi.

Day 7
After breakfast we leave for Kilifarevo monastery, dating back to the 14th century. Tucked away in a marvellous river valley, the monastery is a fine example of the Bulgarian National Revival period architecture. We take a walk in the nearby forest, enjoying the smells and the sounds of the virgin nature. Dinner and overnight in Kilifarevo.

Day 8
On the way to Plovdiv, our destination for this day, we stop at Tryavna - a charming little place, renowned for its handicrafts, especially woodcarving and icon painting. Full of Bulgarian National Revival houses, stone bridges, fine churches and a rich art gallery, Tryavna is sure to surprise and delight with its timeless beauty and charm. At the Ethnographical Village Museum near Gabrovo we visit the small workshops where local artisans make their products using the power of falling water. Dinner and overnight in Plovdiv.

Day 9
Today you have the chance to wander through the Old Plovdiv with its fine Revival Period architetecure, quiet churches, a Thracien fort, Roman amphitheatre from the 2nd c. A.D., a Roman stadium, numerous art galleries, icon exhibitions and antique shops. After lunch we visit the 11th c. Bachkovo Monastery. Dinner and overnight in Plovdiv.

Day 10
Via Borovets, a popular ski resort, we reach Rila Monastery, dating back to the 10th century. Tucked away in a thick wooded valley, Rila Monastery is Bulgaria's most holy place, major centre of Bulgarian culture and history throughout the ages. It has always offered the weary travellers shelter and warmth, spiritual comfort and peace. Dinner and overnight in a cosy family hotel in the neighbourhood of Rila Monastery.

Departure to Sofia. You have the rest of the day to yourself. A farewell dinner and overnight in the same hotel as on night 1.
