Sofia - 7 millennia old and yet so very young, the old Plovdiv with the Roman amphitheatre and splendid house-museums, Gabrovo with its Ethnographic Village Museum, Veliko Tarnovo, the former capital of Bulgaria, perched on the limestone hills, high above a winding river, with magnificent churches, monasteries and a medieval fortress.

Day-to-day-program
Day 1
 Your English speaking travel guide meets you at Sofia airport and brings you to your hotel. A free welcome drink and dinner at a traditional Bulgarian restaurant. Overnight in Sofia.

Day 2
 In the morning we visit Alexander Nevski Cathedral with the gilded domes, the crypt with its marvellous icons and the Roman Rotunda from the 2nd c. A.D. We can't miss the 13th c. Boyana Church - a World Heritage site of UNESCO.
Dinner and overnight in Sofia.

Day 3
 Our trip takes us to Plovdiv where we first make a sightseeing city tour. We visit the Roman Amphitheatre from the 2nd c. A.D., the Philipopolus Art Gallery, the St.Konstantin and Elena church and several house-museums. You have the rest of the day free to feel the charm of the ancient Plovdiv.
Dinner and overnight in Plovdiv.

Day 4
 Today you have the chance to wander through the old Plovdiv with its fine Bulgarian Revival style architecture, ancient churches, a Thracian fort, a Roman stadium, numerous art galleries and antique shops.
A visit to the Bachkovo monastery from the 11th c., dinner and overnight in Plovdiv.

Day 5
 After breakfast we leave, via the Rose Valley and the picturesque Shipka mountain pass, for the Ethnographical Village Museum Etara near Gabrovo. In small workshops local artisans make their products using the power of falling water. We continue our travel to Kilifarevo Monastery, tucked away in a beautiful river valley. Enjoy the serenity if the virgin nature. Come to yourself amidst beauty and peace.
Dinner and overnight in a comfortable hotel near the monastery.

Day 6
 We take a farewell with the monastery and go ahead to Veliko Tarnovo. We climb Tsarevets Hill and visit the Cathedral and the medieval fortress. Admire the colourful frescoes gracing the walls of many churches and monasteries in and around the town. Nowhere is the majesty of medieval Bulgaria more apparent than in this City of the Tsars.
Dinner and overnight in Arbanassi - a picturesque village 5 km north-east of the town.

Day 7
 Today we explore this unieke village, perched on the steep hills, with a staggering view over Veliko Tarnovo. We discover the beauty of the houses and the gardens hidden behind high stone walls with big wooden gates. The medieval monasteries in Arbanassi welcome the visitors with their quiet beauty and peace. They have so many legends to tell, so much to impress and enchant with.

Day 8
 Via the forested valley of the village of Apriltsi we reach Troyan monastery, Bulgaria's third largest monastery, renowned for its colorful murals and remarkable woodcarvings. Enjoy the beauty inside and outside the monastery. Forget all your troubles and cares amidst silence and peace. Tonight a tasty Bulgarian meal, well washed down with some excellent local wine, awaits you at a cosy "Mehana ", the traditional style Bulgarian tavern.
Overnight in the neighbourhood of the Troyan monastery.

Day 9
 After a visit to the National Exhibition of Arts and Crafts, which is the best place to buy an authentic souvenir for someone you love, we head for Sofia. You have the rest of the day to yourself.
Farewell dinner and overnight in Sofia.
